Oscar Torres was a boy who grew up in one of the poorest areas of Nicaragua. Lacking in food to eat and without much of a chance at receiving an education, Oscar entered into the Compassion program. Through Compassion, he found his way back to God and became very involved in his church. His pastor, noticing his talents for preaching and teaching, became his mentor and trained him for a life in ministry. Oscar eventually completed the Compassion program with the hopes of planting a church. He began a church in the community in which he grew up that began to meet under a small wooden structure covered in leaves. In February, it will become a building that not only hosts his congregation, but also serves as a Compassion Center for the community. Oscar found his way back to God through Compassion and is now helping countless others to do the same as the pastor of COMMUNITY’s first church plant in Nicaragua!
