Opening Questions
- How have you been able to B.L.E.S.S. someone recently?
- If you could bring back any fashion trend, what would it be?
- The Pew Research Center has developed a tool that can measure relational conflict. And here is what they found out about the United States today: “The United States stands out among 17 advanced economies as one of the most conflicted when it comes to questions of social unity. A large majority of Americans say there are strong political and strong racial and ethnic conflicts in the U.S. and that most people disagree on basic facts.” What do you think about this statement from the Pew Research Center?
Bible Discussion
- Read John 20:19-23. The first word Jesus speaks to his disciples after his resurrection is not a command but a gift. He stands before them, breathes on them, and gives them peace. In what ways does Jesus offer and bring peace?
- Look at verses 21-23. Jesus gave authority to his disciples to bring peace, and he sent them into the world. In what ways can his disciples today be sent to bring peace?
- Read 2 Corinthians 5:17-20. What is Paul saying here about the role of the church?
Life Application
- Read Romans 5:1-5. How does this passage speak to us when facing hardship and suffering?
- What conflicts in your community or personal life are troubling to you? In what way can the peace of Jesus be an answer to that conflict?
- What steps might we take toward being people God has sent into the world to be agents of peace? You might look at the Community Cares page together and see if there is a cause or an event that might be an excellent place to start: communitychristian.org/cares/
