At the first meeting we will provide material to make fleece-tie blankets to work on together. You need to bring a pair of scissors. If you prefer to knit or crochet prayer shawls, just bring your projects along and enjoy the fellowship. We will talk about the ministry in general, and explain who gets the blankets, how we distribute them, etc. I will also share some expressions of thanks we’ve received from people who've been given our blankets and shawls. Here's a little preview of one of them:
"A blanket is so comforting when you are not feeling well and not feeling ready to meet the challenges of life. I use it often when I'm sitting on my couch. It is a beautiful reminder that I have friends and am not alone, that others are praying for me and my health issues. Praise God for your ministry!"
Since we started doing this in May 2006, we have already been able to provide over 90 blankets or shawls for CCC attenders as well as for their family members and friends. All of these blankets and shawls were made and donated to us by caring people within our CCC church family. We’ve found that as more and more people find out about the Prayer Blanket/Shawl Ministry, the requests for blankets and shawls come pouring in! By working together in friendship and fellowship in this new group, we will be able to provide many more people with these symbols of God’s comfort, support and love as they go through difficult times.
Please let Denise know if you will be able to come to our kick-off meeting on March 5th. She can be reached by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or by phone at 630.278.9707. I think that this group will be a blessing not only to those in need, but to all of us who will gather together twice a month to do this work in Jesus' name.
