Kids Spread Generosity

This story of generosity started on a Saturday at Chuck E. Cheese.  Emma was at a birthday party for a 4-year old neighbor boy, my son.  I noticed that she was standing in front of the token machine with a $10 bill in her hand, for quite a while.

I came up to her and asked her what was the matter.  She told me that she was wondering if she should cash in her money for tokens or could her money be put to better use.  At that point I thought she was thinking of buying herself something with the money she had earned.  I told her she didn’t have to use her money, I had tokens for them.

The next day during the Giving Back to God moment, the Communicator talked with the kids about the two Kids’ City Giving Back to God projects.  Emma came up with her $10 bill.  She went to put it in the offering box, stating that half of it should go to the kids in East Aurora and the other half to the kids in Uganda, so both places would be able to have fun at church, just like she does.   As she bent down to put her money in the box, she paused.  She said that she didn’t feel like that was enough to make a difference.

She walked back to her purse and pulled a $20 bill out.  She was trying to figure out if she was going to give the full amount or not.  She verbalized that even giving $20, she didn’t think it was enough to make a difference…they needed a lot of money to be able to buy toys, craft supplies and Bibles so they can learn about Jesus in a fun way.

Her thoughts and compassion touched the Tech that was sitting in the back of the room.  He told her that he was moved by her willingness to give so much of her money.  He pitched in money for the projects.  She also touched her father, who is the small group leader, and he pitched in money also for the projects.  Altogether, they gave $50 to be split between East Aurora and Uganda, so the children of those places can have a Kids’ City, just like we have.

Our Giving Back to God projects this year has to do with starting a Kids’ City in East Aurora and Uganda.  We could help a new church in East Aurora and Uganda teach kids about who Jesus is in a fun way.  The money raised during our Giving Back to God time will be used to buy resources for those two churches.
