Home Locations Chicago

THE VISION - A Multi-Campus Launch with a Missional Community and Small Group Strategy – reproducing locations to impact all of Chicago’s 200+ neighborhoods. As the 3rd largest U.S. city, 3 million people live within the city limits. 67% of them have yet to find their way back to God and almost 20% of this population lives below the poverty line.

  • Churches are closing in Chicago at the rate of 1 per week.  Chicago experienced a net loss of 500 churches between 1997 and 2006.
  • Only 10% of the population attends religious services during a typical week.
  • Chicago contains 10 of the nation’s 16 poorest neighborhoods.
  • 85% of Chicago Public School children are from low-income families.

Reaching the 67% who have yet to find their way back to God: In the Spring of 2011, COMMUNITY will plant the first of three sites targeting three distinct neighborhoods in the city of Chicago.  Every small group will have a missional strategy that actively reaches out to the 67/20.  Missional communities will be formed in apartment buildings, work places, coffeehouses, bars—wherever there is the opportunity for people to find their way back to God in a smaller, relational setting.

Serving the 20% of people who live in poverty: COMMUNITY will mobilize people to be agents of generosity, hope and justice in the community and the world.  We will partner with established non-profit organizations in Chicago to assist with the felt needs of each community as well as international organizations to mobilize Chicago residents to help meet the needs of our world.
