What a last day!! That might seem a strange thing to say, but it was a wonderful day to rejoice in how God has touched our lives in a short period of time. That was never more evident than having our first two baptisms during this final service and both were kids... Ashley Onken and Carissa Drury.  God is GREAT!!

altThe acoustic music was wonderful, but then it was every week.  Erin Metcalf was such an amazing leader and the talent she recruited each week gave us a wonderful melodic air to our service.

Dan and Kathy Platt were our hosts each week and truly had a team that were so welcoming and gave us a great space to build community and, most importantly, eat delicious baked goods.

Ray Rezek did such a great job with the StuCo adults…  You could tell by the testimonies during the last service that students and leaders alike were impacted by their time together.  It’s so rewarding to see the leader’s of tomorrow being so influenced and challenged to become more than they thought they can be in Christ.

Andrew Holdorf was a constant voice for small groups and community.  While this was his first leadership commission, you can tell he has the gift and it will be exciting to see where God takes him.  I can’t wait to see!

Eric Metcalf did such a wonderful job filling in for Steve…  His leadership, during a very difficult time, was so appreciated and wonderfully executed.

Steve and Thelma Kerby – The true heart and soul of our campus or should I say God working through them allowed us to see our hearts and true souls.  It’s difficult to understand why a 10-year journey to return to the ministry ended as it did, but even so there are many people impacted by the short time we met.  Their contribution to the spiritual journeys of many will be felt for years to come.

Thanks to all who made this journey possible…and I wouldn’t have changed a thing.  God’s blessing to all and look forward to the next season.

What a month it has been for us in Kids' City as we've been collecting gently used shoes as each campus works to support two orphans in Tanzania!  Aug. 29th is the last day to bring shoes so don't forget!!  Our goal is for each COMMUNITY campus to collect 1,000 pairs of shoes, with a total goal of 10,000 shoes for donation!  We are accepting gently used kids and adults shoes and sandals, but please no boots.

altPart of the thrill of being a part of such a great mission, like Kids’ City, are the moments of impromptu generosity that come our way….and such is the case with the artwork pictured.

A new JumpStreet “friend”, over the past several weeks, saw me today and pulled out the picture to show me.  I fawned over the color, her talent and her skill and then gave it back to her…to which she then looked inquisitively at me and said, “This is for you!”

There are many benefits and perks that are part of every job, but I dare say those glimpses of God are the most precious and best part of this humble position.

If you aren’t a part of a mission, Kids’ City is a great place to be as the kiddo’s appreciate every attention given; no matter how small and seemingly insignificant.

A young man and a bible...

Kevin MacDonald – Kids’ City Director

A young man named Clay, who’s in our JumpStreet class, came to me last week and asked to buy the bible they use in his class.  When I told him how much it cost, he then raced to his parents who then came over to look.

This week he again came over to the prize cart to inquire about the bible, except this time he had his parents and the Mom had an open checkbook.  She said, “He’s been talking about this all week and reminded me to bring my checkbook this morning.”

Ironically, there’s a quote by a bit older Clay that embodies this young man…

“You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.”

~Clay P. Bedford

It will be exciting to see how Clay lives out that curiosity….and is what we in Kids’ City live for.

My story...

Erin Metcalf - Arts Director

“So I have been reading the new book that just came out called “Exponential” written by our own founding pastors Dave and Jon Ferguson.  It is starting to rock my world.  I love, love, love being a part of this awesome Missional Church Movement at CCC.  I actually feel guilty for taking all of this for granted the past 11 years of being a part of the church.
In the first chapter alone, I have been reminded about why we are doing what we are doing...the whole mission of ‘Helping People Find Their Way Back to God’ (hpftwbtg).   God is up to some cool things and continues to use those who are faithful.  I was very encouraged by the verse at the end of chapter one having to do with God using ‘someone’ to start a movement...

“The Eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose
hearts are fully committed to Him.” 2 Chronicles 16:9 (NLT)

The next line was a cool challenge, “Whatever your dream, wherever you are today, remember this; that someone can be you.  Yes, a movement can start with you.”  So what is God calling you to do?

More of my story to come...stay tuned!  :)

altToday there are more roads to choose than ever. StuCo will be taking a few weeks to see if we can make some right turns, or some left ones, we aren’t sure. We are sure that we will find some good challenges from the Bible, some good conversations, oh yeah… and a lot of fun!
