Neighborhood Team (Community 4:12)

I am Kirsten Strand, Director of Community 4:12, COMMUNITY’s ministry with and to the 20%.  Our mission is to Unite People to Restore Communities.  We mobilize Christ-followers to be the hands, feet, and voice of Christ in under-resourced communities.  We strengthen, develop, and equip under-resourced communities by responding to immediate needs, empowering people through training and development, and addressing systemic and justice issues.  We have been working in East Aurora for the past six years, in Joliet for the past two years, in Pilsen for the past year, and we are exploring other communities locally and globally where Community 4:12 can help impact the 20%.

As a result of last year’s Celebration Generosity, we:

• Expanded the Parent Mentor program in Aurora to six schools and 40 Mentors.
• Held three Christmas Gift Marts in Aurora & Joliet, providing 14,000 toys to low-income children, and raising over $20,000 for under-resourced schools.
• Launched the East Aurora COMMUNITY Campus and mid-week programs for kids and adults.
• Expanded youth programming to include:  KidPal in Joliet and Kids Hope Mentoring, Art Club, & Tae Kwon Do in Aurora.  
  

This year, Community 4:12 is expanding its role at COMMUNITY to oversee both local and global efforts to impact the 20%.

With your help, this year we will be able to:

• Provide each campus with a part-time Community 4:12 Coordinator to expand opportunities to impact the 20% locally and globally.
• Form a new Community Development Corporation to allow for greater funding and partnership opportunities, so we can take our work in under-resourced communities to the next level of impact.
• Expand empowerment programs such as tutoring, mentoring, and job-skill training in Aurora, Joliet, and Pilsen. 

We need YOUR help to make this happen:
During our celebration services March 6/7, we will be devoting the entire service to celebrate generosity to these four teams. We hope to make this our largest offering all year long.
