Spiritual Awakenings and Many "Wows"

I still consider myself "new" to Community after almost twelve full months of spiritual awakenings, connections and many many WOW's! I just couldn't keep this latest story to myself. I was introduced to the church by my family almost a year ago and words will never express my sincere gratitude.  I currently serve in Kids' City, I publicly declared my commitment to Jesus with my would-be brother baptizing me in April, I went on a mission trip in August, and I find myself journaling almost daily now.  Total journal entries: 180!

Finding My Way Back to God

Written by Susan Tuesday, September 16, 2008

In July 2002 I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  I endured surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments.  I lost my hair and wore a wig. I was worn out and tired constantly.  I felt lost and alone and did not know where to turn.  I live right by the Yellow Box and had noticed this strange looking building.   A friend of mine that attended services there told me about the place and I decided to check it out.  I immediately felt comfortable due to all of the wonderful greeters and members there who were so nice to me.  I realized that God was calling me back to him after being separated from Him for so many years.  Now I have found my way back to God and accept his forgiveness and mercy. I love my all of my small group members and finally feel like I have meaning to my life and have my purpose to serve and worship the Lord.  I have found peace and satisfaction with life that I never felt before.  I feel like God used the fact that I had cancer to bring me back to him.  I praise and worship him every day!!

Break My Heart

A few weeks back, I experienced verbal attacks from a loved one.  The pain this person caused was truly heartbreaking.  The next day, I came to CCC, and the message was amazing.  "God has a purpose for you in your journey."  This message didn't necessarily comfort me, but it allowed me to seek God for His particular purpose in my life.  So, I asked Him.  During communion, I cried out to God to show me how this pain was "good" for me.

Giving God the Control

Before I started attending Yellow Box I was deep in a nine-year battle with an eating disorder.  No matter what I did I couldn't seem to gather up the strength to beat this devil that had plagued my life for so many years.  A friend had invited me to come to Yellow Box for a Saturday night service, and I loved it!!!  The people were so friendly, and it reminded me a lot of my previous church.  While I was in treatment for my eating disorder I found the company of people at Yellow Box to be very comforting and rewarding, so I continued to come back.
